QA Laboratory Technician


Position Summary

Perform laboratory/quality functions by testing, collecting data, and analyzing findings on raw materials, ingredients and finished goods. Comply with NY State Ag & Markets, FDA, USDA, and GMP policies. Carry out special projects as required. Perform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of quality, service, and cost objectives. Comply with all standard operating procedures and requirements as directed under standard methods for laboratory procedures.

QA Laboratory Technician Responsibilities
  • Prepare in-process and finished product samples.
  • Perform analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures.
  • Enter and report data using established a laboratory procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance related to all lab instrumentation.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of all laboratory supplies.
  • Clean glassware and required equipment throughout the entire lab environment.
  • Analyze incoming ingredients, blends, and finished product to meet specifications.
  • Perform microbiological analysis on finished product, incoming ingredients and environmental swabbing.
  • Collect microbiological and shelf-life samples.
  • Monitor and inspect production lines to ensure that quality and package integrity are within specifications.
  • Complete all documentation associated with quality checks and QC daily reports.
  • Ability to research historical data when required and report findings.
  • Work with engineering, production and sanitation personnel to trouble-shoot quality related issues when they arise.
  • Communicate technical and analytical data using reports, charts, graphs, etc. as required.
  • Prioritize assignments and independently manage time to satisfy business needs.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of quality and generate corrective action requests and document change requests.
  • Complete and manage QC and production generated paperwork.
  • Place raw materials and finished product on hold when required.
  • Monitor sorting of hold product as needed.
  • Monitor and assist with the management all quality checks performed by production.
  • Set up analytical equipment and perform required daily calibrations.
  • Prepare standard solutions and reagents as required.
  • Utilize proper chemical handling procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory in a safe and organized condition at all times.
  • Maintain equipment and area cleanliness to ensure compliance with all GMP standards.
  • Assist processing and production personnel as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
Position Requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Food Technology, Dairy Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or Engineering is preferred. This position requires a person with strong knowledge and experience in lab testing programs, regulatory compliance, food safety, labeling requirements and processing standards as applied to the dairy manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Familiarity with Windows based programs.
  • Ability to perform basic laboratory skills in a safe manner.
  • Familiarity with basic lab equipment and glassware.
  • Ability to understand technical records and communicate technical data.
  • Ability to work independently or within a group with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to detect color changes in chemical testing procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts or other work schedules as determined by business needs, including overtime as required.
  • Must be certified on the training plan for this position within six months of start date.
    Candidate should be familiar with operating standard lab equipment (i.e., pH meter, balances and spectrophotometer).
  • Prior experience with advanced analytical techniques (GC, HPLC) is ideal but not mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of GMP, FDA, SQF and other regulatory requirements helpful.
Working Conditions

Majority of work is performed in the lab and on the production floor with extended periods of standing. Work involves exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, wetness, heights, dust, moving equipment, vibrations and vapors.

Equipment Used

Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to safety glasses, steel-toed shoes and hearing protection. Common laboratory equipment, including but not limited to, electronic balances, colorimeters, torque testers, autoclaves, fume hoods, pH meters, autotitrators, spectrophotometers, distillation equipment, density meters, turbidimeters, refractometers, water baths, calcium meters, stirrers, centrifuges, ovens, vacuum pumps, timers, micro colony counters, BacT/Alert equipment, ATP swabbing equipment, and incubators. In addition, personal computers with associated software and common office equipment are used.

Process Equipment Operator


Evening Shift (6:00pm – 6:30am)

Perform receiving, pasteurization, separation, batching sanitation, clean-in-place, maintenance and record-keeping functions in various manufacturing departments. Analyze ingredients to meet customer specifications.

Qualifications

Laboratory Technician

Evening Shift (6:00pm-6:30am)

Join our expanding business as a laboratory technician. The successful candidate should enjoy the laboratory setting and be able to perform a variety of milk testing procedures. Technicians must be able to calibrate and operate laboratory machines (e.g. a pH meter) and perform analytical testing. Other essential skills include laboratory and food safety skills (e.g. chemical handling and aseptic technique), the ability to communicate clearly, and familiarity with laboratory procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED necessary, Associate’s Degree in biology or related areas preferred.

Industrial Maintenance Technician


Evening Shift (6:00pm – 6:30am)

Strong electrical background in Industrial Electrical Controls (Frequency drives, PLC, Servo), mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems operations. Familiar with conveyors, welding and ammonia refrigeration, experience in dairy or food processing a plus.
